It is the purpose of this thesis to discuss the nature of Antarctic climate; its effect upon explorers who visit the continent, and some of the adaptations men must make in order to be able to live and work in the frigid climate that is lethal to almost all forms of life. The conclusions arrived at in this study are based upon observations made by the author in Antarctica as a member of both expeditions led by Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd, U.S.N Retired. Further information was drawn from the extensive authoritative literature or numerous scientific expeditions that have approached or inhabited the continent in various sectors.
