The Effect of Nitrogen and Phosphorous Fertilization on the Cation Exchange Capacity of Arctic Soils and Plant Nutrient Content

I would like to thank the numerous people who have helped me throughout the thesis process. My advisor Steve Hamburg has supported and encouraged me over the past three years. As a thesis advisor he has guided and at times prodded me towards my goal, a sound scientific analysis of a terrestrial syst...

My advisor Steve Hamburg has supported and encouraged me over the past three years. As a thesis advisor he has guided and at times prodded me towards my goal, a sound scientific analysis of a terrestrial system. When he accepted my application to be an REU at Toolik Lake Gus Shaver had no idea what a burdensome student I would become. His assistance in finding a thesis question and designing an experiment, his input throughout the process and having access to the facilities at the Marine Biological Laboratory was invaluable. He went above and beyond what was called for and I am grateful to him for it. Anne Giblin was very supportive when both commenting on my drafts and, along with Sam Kelso, assisting me with the Atomic Absorption Spectrometer. Dave Murray gave me, an inexperienced lab worker, all of the necessary technical support as well as assisting me in the data analysis. In addition he was very encouraging during all of the trials and tribulations that occurred in the laboratory. I am grateful for the ability to work with Jules Bitay and Rich Williams on the ICP. Finally, Inger Kappel-Schmidt, Jim Laundre, and Kama Theiler for all of there help up at Toolik Lake and back at MBL.
