With a perspective based on the work of numerous investigators,1"20 free association interviews were carried out on a random sample of 200 patients with tuberculosis. As the data ac-cumulated, specific psychosocial constellations could be readily identified. The following ob-servations in this report were undertaken to clarify, validate, and formulate some of the generalizations adduced. In these investiga-tions, techniques from the sociologic, psycho-logic, and physiologic disciplines have been used. No uniform method has been applied to all observations.
