The men who first came to the North American con-tinent over 20,000 years ago were following big game ani-mals over the Bering Strait when a land bridge existed there. His continued quest for game led him to all parts of the continent, and although it is questionable exactly how many thousands of years ago he first entered the San Luis Valley, he was undoubtedly following the big game trail. It seems he first came here after he had been on the continent for a considerable time because climatic condi-tions of the Wisconsin Glacial Period persisted longer in the valley than on the plains and conditions would not have been favorable for man or animals.
