Behavioral thermoregulation by high arctic butterflies. Arctic 23(4
ABSTRACT. Behavioural thermoregulation is an important adaptation of the five high arctic butterflies found at Lake Hazen (81 “49‘N., 71 18’W.), Ellesmere Island, Northwest Territories. Direct insolation is used by arctic butterflies to increase their body temperatures. They select basking substrate...

Direct insolation is used by arctic butterflies to increase their body temperatures. They select basking substrates and precisely orientate their wings with respect to the sun.
