The observations were made in the course of other field investigations undertaken in the Northwest Territories since 1946 for the Canadian Wildlife Service. A preliminary investigation of the muskrat resources of the Mackenzie delta was carried out between 15 July and 17 August 1946. A t this time brief observations were made at the airfields in the Mackenzie valley. In the delta, camps were established at Aklavik, the Reindeer Station, and Richards Island. Small mammal traps were set at the Reindeer Station. In 1948 and 1949 extensive field work was undertaken in connection with the barren ground caribou investigation (Banfield, 1950), and much informa-tion was obtained from numerous low level flights over the eastern part of the Mackenzie District. Throughout the summer field trips I was assisted by Mr. A. L. Wilk. Intensive studies and small mammal trapping was carried out at the following stations for the periods listed: Text Aklavik Arctic Mackenzie Delta Mackenzie Valley Northwest Territories Reindeer Station Richards Island Unknown Aklavik ENVELOPE(-135.011,-135.011,68.219,68.219) Mackenzie Delta ENVELOPE(-136.672,-136.672,68.833,68.833) Mackenzie Valley ENVELOPE(-126.070,-126.070,52.666,52.666) Northwest Territories Reindeer Station ENVELOPE(-134.132,-134.132,68.693,68.693)
