In this report we focus on current research in operating system support for multimedia. We consider general design characteristics and look closely at several research projects including Pegasus, DASH, Real-Time Mach, YARTOS, SUMO, Pandora/Medusa, Zebra, RAID-II, the Lancaster Continuous Media Storage Server and the UCSD Multi Media File Server as well as other projects. 1 This report is also published as IT3038/1-93 by NORUT Information Technology, N-9005 Tromsoe, Norway. 2 NORUT Information Technology, N-9005 Tromsoe, Norway and University of Twente, Faculty of Computer Science/SPA, P.O.
