The cha,rt for November 1-15 (fig. 1A) shows a pattern of fairly rapid zonal flow with approximately sinusoidal waves of relatively small amplitude from the east coast of Asia eastward to the Atlantic, while somewhat lower index conditions prevailed.over much-of Europe and Asia. The wave length at middle latitudes was fairly uniform from 'the western Pacific trough eastward to the trough along the east coast of the United States.
