We are applying for an IHA because there is no potential for serious injury or mortality to any marine mammal species. The Farallon Islands consists of a chain of seven islands located approximately 48 km (30 mi) west of San Francisco, near the edge of the continental shelf and in the geographic center of the GFNMS (Figure 1). The land of the islands above the mean high tide mark is designated as the Farallon National Wildlife Refuge (managed by US Fish and Wildlife Service), while the shore and subtidal below are in GFNMS. The nearshore and offshore waters are foraging areas for pinniped species listed in this application and described below. Figure 1.
