Reduced catches of walleye pollock (Theragra chalcogramma), Pacific cod (Gadus macrocephalus), the Pacific ocean perch complex of Sebastes alutus, and four similar congeneric species, and flatfish were the main contributors to the decline--down 7.1, 38.4, 75.6, and 55.1%, respectively Although the decline in the pollock catch was not that great in terms of percentage, it was the greatest factor in terms of sheer weight--a,21,867 t decline for pollock; a 34,389 t decline overall. All elements of the fishing fleet were not equally affected. The total allowable level of foreign fishing was reduced sharply from 1984 levels;,-down 82.2 and 68.6 % for pollock and cod, respectively, and down to token amounts'-:'.for the remaining species or species groups.
