Summary:– November 1998 – The silver dollar on the cover was issued in 1989 to mark the 200th anniversary of Sir Alexander Mackenzie’s first voyage of discovery in the Canadian northwest. Mackenzie travelled from Fort Chipewyan along Great Slave Lake and down the river that bears his name to the Arctic Ocean. He found the route to the Pacific that he was searching for on his next great journey in 1793. The design is the work of John Mardon.
