It gives certain necessary information as to the characteristics of fishes whose young must be distinguished from those of the halibut in order that the early life history of the latter species may be followed. It is a technical report which will not be of direct use in halibut regulation, but which is of great value in the scientific work upon which such regulation is based. It should also be of value to fisheries science in general. The International Fisheries Commission has had the help of an advisory board of four members: Dr. c. McLean Fraser, Dr. W. A. Clemens, N. B. Scofield, and Dr. Willis H. Rich. This report is one of a series of investigations under · the direction of Dr. William F.
