For the purposes of this section, these two species are combined under the heading, Hippoglossoides sp. Hippoglossoides sp. are managed as a unit stock in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands and were formerly a constituent of the "other flatfish" SAFE chapter. In June 1994, the Council requested the Plan Team to assign a separate ABC for flathead sole (Hippoglossoides sp.) in the BSAI, rather than combining flathead sole (Hippoglossoides sp.) with other flatfish as in past assessments. This request was based on a change in the directed fishing standards to allow increased retention of flatfish.
