Seed dispersal by terrestrial mammals in hurricane-impacted forests on the Atlantic coastal forests of Nicaragua after 2007 Hurricane Felix

I evaluated the seed fate of animal-dispersed timber species Calophyllum brasiliense in hurricane-impacted forests by 2007 Hurricane Felix in the North Atlantic Autonomous Region (RAAN) of Nicaragua. I quantified the rates of seed removal, seed distance, dispersal and seed predation in both hurricane-impacted and undisturbed forests. The distance of seed removal was significantly higher in the undisturbed forest site. Finally, we recommend managing this species when seed dispersal values are higher and could potentially result in successfully established banks of regeneration.
