George Cain enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in December of 1941. He was a senior at Georgetown University at the time, and wanted to become an officer in the army. The summer following his enlistment, he went to Officer Candidate School as an aviation cadet. He went to Aviation Communication School at Scott Field (Ill.) and then had additional schooling at Yale University. In May of 1944, Cain was put on a troop transport overseas. His group went to India first, working in aviation communications in air fields in Bombay and Calcutta, and Chabua. The 23rd Fighter Group then transferred to China, to help in the war against the Japanese. He describes what the conditions in China were like during the war, and some of the unusual things they ate while he was stationed there. He was sent back to the United States in January of 1946, and place on inactive reserve. When the war in Korea began, he was called up to serve in aviation communication again. However, by this time, Cain had obtained his law degree, and no longer had any interest in communications, so he transferred to legal services. He was stationed in Newfoundland, Canada, and it was his job to teach other officers and lawyers about the Uniform Code of Military Justice. After returning home, he was discharged. 23rd Fighter Group Captain Veteran Moving Image (Video) Newfoundland Central Connecticut State University (CCSU): Digital Collections Bombay ENVELOPE(-60.783,-60.783,-63.900,-63.900) Canada Newfoundland
