International audience From the Feather to the Egg: Exploitation of Avian Resources in the Magdalenian of Southern France Bones are almost the only archaeological remains that bear witness to bird resources exploitation by Magdalenian hunter-gatherer societies. However, few eggshell fragments suggest the consumption of eggs and several arguments could indicate the use of feathers. In Southern France, a score of species of birds was used during Tardiglaciaire, however, the majority of the zooarchaeological data concerns Grouses, Alpine Chough and Snowy Owl. Grouses and Alpine Chough were obviously used only in the food sphere. Snowy owl was the object of integrated exploitation of flesh and raw materials. Finally, others species, often of large size, are essentially represented by manufactured bones. For these artefacts, the procurement pattern, by hunting or collecting, is still unknown. Des ressources aviaires potentiellement exploitées par les chasseurs-cueilleurs magdaléniens, il ne subsiste guère que les ossements comme témoins archéologiques. De rares fragments de coquilles conservés suggèrent cependant que les œufs ont été collectés pour l'alimentation et plusieurs indices pourraient indiquer la recherche des plumes. Dans le sud de la France, si une vingtaine d'espèces d'oiseaux a été exploitée durant le Tardiglaciaire, la plupart des données archéozoologiques se rapporte aux Lagopèdes, au Chocard, et à la Chouette Harfang. Lagopèdes et Chocard n'ont visiblement été utilisés que dans la sphère alimentaire alors que la Chouette des neiges a fait l'objet d'une exploitation intégrée des matières premières carnée et osseuse. Enfin, d'autres espèces, souvent de grande taille, sont essentiellement représentées par des ossements manufacturés dont on ignore les modes d'acquisition (mise à mort ou ramassage).
