International audience Aldo Leopold a joué un rôle majeur aux États-Unis à l'interface entre la gestion de la forêt et celle du gibier dans la première moitié du XXe siècle. Il a longuement oeuvré pour une gestion raisonnée et globale de la faune sauvage en relation avec son milieu. Il a pour cela combiné observations naturalistes et approche scientifique. Il a largement pris part aux débats naissants sur la protection de la nature et est ainsi devenu une figure emblématique des grands mouvements écologistes américains et du service forestier. Après être tombé dans l'oubli, puis avoir été redécouvert dans les années 1970, Aldo Leopold est cependant peu reconnu par l'opinion publique.
