This model the Arctic cooperatives in order to elucidate their conformity to and deviations from the ideal. The impact of the cooperatives on the Lives of the Inuit is discussed in terms of the discontinuities they introduced with the traditional Inuit Lifestyle. The problems and constraints the cooperatives have encountered throughout their development are outlined. The results of this thesis illustrate the importance the cooperative movement has played in the lives of the Inuit in their attempts to become active and self-confidant participants in Canadian society. The thesis also serves as an important case-study in cooperative development and serves to change. further our understanding of social and cultural cooperative is described.
