Description
Summary:The story of Dutch Harbor is based on an actual incident, the disappearance and subsequent death of commercial fisherman on his first venture to the remote port of Dutch Harbor. In the story this seaman appears as David, a somewhat adventurous man in his mid-thirties who makes the fateful decision to strike out on this venture in spite of a premonition that he may not return. His premonition derives from his fear of going down in a storm, for he knows the gross number of vessels that are lost each season in the Bering Sea. The terrible irony is, of course, that he doesn't di e at sea, going down in a disastrous storm, but rather he meets his fate one seemingly innocent night while in port.
