Through the cadastral documents there are societies, political strategies, cultures that intersect, influence or diverge throughout the continent. After the illustrious Roman surveys and a cadastral expansion in the Middle Ages on the Italian shores of the Mediterranean, the horizon widened and covered a Europe from the Atlantic to the Urals, going up to the White Sea. In the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries Hungary, Muscovy, Poland and Sweden entered the world of cadastres. Cartographic achievements are becoming more important. In the eighteenth century, States exchange models and experiences. A leap of scale has occurred since the medieval initiatives, taken mainly by the municipalities. Within this "Republic of the Administrators," where the English, who escaped the notion itself, was not lacking, forged a European fiscal modernity, around the renewed use of old practices, theorized by the physiocrats, and Beyond the tax authorities, on future development and spatial development objectives. Swedish, Spanish, Pomeranian and Ottoman documents, rare in the French bibliography, as well as a general chronology, complement this work, in which twenty-four of the best French and foreign specialists collaborated, after a colloquium Held in 2003 Book Part White Sea BIROn - Birkbeck Institutional Research Online (Birkbeck University of London) White Sea
