The holotype was found near the Klyuchevskaya Sopka volcano (Kamchatka peninsula, Russia). The new specimen of this species was collected in a superficial subterranean habitat (the MSS – Milieu Souterrain Superficiel) in the rock glacier in Val Sassa (Swiss National Park, Grisons, Switzerland) by a subterranean trap in 2020. This is the first record of A. umbrosa in the MSS of the Swiss Alps and in a rock glacier. A key to the known Swiss species of Aspilota is provided.
