Summary:This false color image of ozone total column amounts based on UV and Infrared (IR) measurements by the NOAA SBUV/2 and HIRS instruments shows the ozone hole (in red) on 26 September 2010 when analysis determined it to be at its maximal seasonal extent for this year. At roughly 20 million square kilometers its area is about twice that of the United States.
