المسرح هو فن الممثل، وهو الاساس الذي قام عليه فن التمثيل ، فهذا الفن الذي انطلق من الاغريق وانتشر الى كافة اقطار العالم تقريباً ، كان قد بنى على الممثل الذي بدونه لا يمكن ان تكون هناك مسرحية ، وان التمثيل ليس مجرد الوقوف او التحرك فوق خشبة المسرح ، بل هو حالة وجودية متميزة تجعل من فن الممثل اكثر موضوعات الفن المسرحي صعوبة ، وتبرز تلك الصعوبة من خلال تحديد احاسيسه ومشاعره ومحاولة التقرب الى عوالمه والتغلغل الى اعماقه ،وبما ان المونودراما تمتلك خصائص فنية وتقنية تنفرد بها عن الاشكال المسرحية الاخرى فهي تبحث في دواخل الشخصية وتخوض في اعماقها منتقلة ما بين الماضي والحاضر من خلال الوعي واللاوعي ، الحقيقة والحلم لتكشف لنا عن عوالم تلك الشخصية وما يحيط بها ، لذا فأن الممثل لا يعتمد البناء التسلسلي في تجسيده للشخصية المونودرامية المنتقلة خلال ازمان مختلفة وعن طريق حالات انفعالية متنوعة ومرتدة الى الوراء اغلب الاحيان مطلقاً احياناً على عوالم تلك الشخصية والشخوص الاخرى التي تسهم في بناء الحكاية وسرديتها .
