In summer 1996 the first AWI airborne RES survey has been flown from NorthGRIP (75,1°N; 42,3°W). Since then another four surveys have been flown either from NorthGRIP or from Station Nord (81,7°S; 16,7°W) mapping the ice thickness destribution in the vicinity of the deep ice core drill site NorthGRIP and in the northeast of the Greenland ice sheet, covering the drainage basins of Nioghalvfjerdensfjorden, Zachariae Isstrøm and Storsstrømmen. These ice thickness measurements are used to up-date data sets for modelling studies as well as for modelling studies.Beside the RES system is the research aircraft Polar2 equipped with two Trimble 4000SSI GPS receiver, a Scintrex magnetometer and an Optech laser altimeter. This system set-up can be complemented by a modified ships gravitymeter.All RES surveys carried out by AWI in Greenland so far sum up to more than 250 h of flight time and more than 50000 km RES profiles. The presentation will focus on the ice thickness measurements of northeast Greenland. Beside maps of the ice thickness and subglacial topo­graphy also the destribution of bed reflections will be presented and discussed.
