Description
Summary:The biennial Arctic Energy Summit, which is an endorsed project of the Sustainable Development Working Group (SDWG) of the Arctic Council, regards energy resources as a fundamental building block for communities. The outcomes from the Arctic Energy Summit include the identification of best practices, research questions, and potential projects that will advance the application of emerging energy technologies; improve existing energy systems; and foster greater benefits to northern peoples while minimizing environmental, social, cultural, and economic risk. The Institute of the North looks forward to continued engagement on this issue, and will follow up on potential research and projects that advance the prudent development of energy resources in the Arctic, consistent with improved living and economic conditions of the northern residents.
