Description
Summary:The Expert Group on Black Carbon and Methane has assessed that Arctic States have reduced their collective black carbon emissions by 20% in 2018, compared to 2013, and are on track to achieve the collective, aspirational goal to reduce black carbon emissions by 25-33% of 2013 levels by 2025. Collective methane emissions have increased by 2% from 2013 to 2018, and are projected to continue increasing to 2025. Continued efforts are required to maintain progress on black carbon emission reductions, and more ambitious efforts are required to reverse the trend of increasing methane emissions. The sector-specific recommendations made in this report remain relevant in order to achieve the goals laid out in the Arctic Council Framework on Enhanced Black Carbon and Methane Emissions Reductions.
