Summary: | The Bering-Chukchi-Beaufort region stretches from Russia's far Eastern Chukotka region, across the North Slope of the US state of Alaska and Canada's Yukon Territory, to the Inuvialuit Settlement Region of the Northwest Territories and the Kitikmeot area of Nunavut in Canada. This assessment describes how new approaches to adaptation planning, governing, and community engagement can improve the prospects for successful adaptation by individuals and communities to future changes. In 2011, the Arctic Council requested AMAP to: "produce information to assist local decision makers and stakeholders in three pilot regions in developing adaptation tools and strategies to better deal with climate change and other pertinent environmental stressors".
