While the summaries presented within this report do not necessarily reflect the opinions of all participants in the workshop, participants did identify both challenges to meaningful engagement, as well as ways in which to improve processes. On September 17, 2016, the Arctic Council's Protection of the Arctic Marine Environment (PAME) Working Group held a workshop on issues surrounding meaningful engagement with Indigenous peoples in the Arctic. The workshop was used to inform and validate the principles and lessons outlined in PAME's Meaningful Engagement of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities Marine Activities (MEMA) project.
