Description
Summary:The Arctic Council working group on the Protection of the Arctic Marine Environment (PAME) at its meeting in Copenhagen in March 2010, agreed to carry out Phase 1 of a project to identify the environmental risks related to the use of heavy fuel (HFO) by ships in the Arctic region. DNV has been asked to carry out the work accordingly and this report sums up the results of the work carried out. The study uses data from the AISSat-1 satellite capable of collecting over the entire Arctic region. The data provides the basis for the traffic analysis and by combining data from different sources the study has identified the vessels among the Arctic fleet likely to operate on HFO.
