These chemicals of emerging concern contribute to an even broader understanding of how Arctic pollution is changing, which is the primary focus of this summary document and the basis for the recommendations of the AMAP Working Group. AMAP's initial assessments of these issues in 1997 contributed significantly to the negotiation of international agreements, such as the 'UNECE's Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution (LRTAP) Protocol on Persistent Organic Pollutants' and the 'Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants', to restrict and phase out the use of these chemicals on a regional and global scale.
