Observations relatives à une expérience de reproduction artificielle des huîtres du Pacifique (Crassostrea gigas Thunberg)

The artificial production of oyster spats in Japan and the USA provided inspiration to some French oyster farmers who thought that, at a time when stocking up Crassostrea gigas spats was getting more difficult, it would be interesting to try out the nutrition techniques developed by Japanese and American specialists. In this way, in La Tremblade, in the Marennes basin, M. Paul Jarno set up some structures aimed at artificial oyster reproduction. Trials started in 1968 and continued in July 1969. The first step was to assess the material and structures' usability and to take a closer look at the practical larval nutrition conditions in order to obtain fixed spats. This document is a collection of the observations carried out during the different trials. La production de naissains d'huîtres réalisée artificiellement au Japon et aux Etats-Unis a inspiré certains ostréiculteurs français qui ont pensé, au moment même où des difficultés intervenaient dans l'approvisionnement en naissains de Crassostrea gigas, qu'il serait opportun d'expérimenter les techniques de nutrition des larves mises au point par les spécialistes japonais et américains. C'est ainsi que dans le bassin de Marennes, M. JARNO Paul a mis en place à La Tremblade des installations destinées à la reproduction artificielle des huîtres. Les essais commencés en 1968 ont été repris en juillet 1969. Il s'agissait dans un premier temps de se rendre compte des possibilités d'utilisation du matériel et des installations et d'examiner les conditions pratiques de nutrition des larves en vue de l'obtention de naissains fixés. La présente note rend compte de quelques observations faites au cours des différentes manipulations.
