Looking After Children (LAC) is a research initiative that began in England for the purpose of assessing the developmental growth of children raised in care across seven developmental dimensions. In this Yukon study, all Whitehorse resident children in permanent government care from age 1-9 years were assessed using the LAC Assessment and Action Records. In addition to establishing a baseline data base of the developmental needs of children in care, the study also examined the experience of social worker and foster parent participants in using the LAC materials to help inform the ongoing development of the assessment strategy. The study also resulted in the formulation of thirty policy and practice recommendations.
