The joint Master program in Geomatic and Environment implemented by Aix-Marseille University and the North Eastern Federal University with the support of the Ambassade de France in Russia is one of the pillar. The Master program contributes to the helps to overcome the lack of managers and GIS specialists in the strategic domains of geomatics, remote sensing and spatial analysis in Yakutia and Siberia. The lack of training in this strategic area in the management of vast arctic and subarctic territories is an economic, social and territorial development issue. The Master in Geomatic and Environment participates both in the training of federal and Sakha Republic state officials, in the production of territorial and environmental geographical knowledge on unknown regions often characterized by the absence of data. It also contributes to the Franco-Russian cooperation policy, whether in support of the vulnerability of populations to environmental risks (floods, debacle, permafrost), as well as in transnational cooperation policy in the framework of the Arctic Council with contributions for the AMAP and CAFF programs.
