The principle aim of this work was to establish survey control which could be identified in space imagery so that a new map of the island can be produced. A number of supplementary tasks were also carried out. In the following pages each task will be dealt with in terms of the technique employed and the results achieved. Finally, matters such as field support and the performance of equipment will be mentioned. Time Frame The Macquarie Island summer field party departed Hobart at 5pm on Friday 6 November 1992 aboard MV Ice Bird, voyage 2 of the Antarctic re-supply season. Voyage 2 arrived at Macquarie island at about 8 am eastern summer time (UT+11) on Monday 9 November 1992. Owing to the sea state at the time of Voyage 2's arrival and my involvement in unloading operations I did not disembark the ship until mid afternoon on Tuesday 10 November. I departed Macquarie Island on Saturday 12 December aboard MV Ice Bird, voyage 3, at about 4 pm local time. Voyage 3 returned to Hobart on Wednesday 16 December. All passengers were disembarked at 7 am that day.
