description The project will use all available upper air and surface temperature data from the IGY (1957) to present to determine the vertical and seasonal characteristics of Antarctic temperature change. Sophisticated meteorological analyses will then be exploited to diagnose the changes in the southward atmospheric transport of energy to ascertain to what extent Antarctic trends can be seen as a response to large-scale atmospheric transport changes. These analyses will be complemented by climate model simulations designed to identify the key causes of the temperature changes. Time series of Antarctic upper air and surface temperature and their trends at eight Antarctic stations. The raw data are taken from various 'homogenised' radiosonde data sets and several 'reanalysis' products. File names are self explanatory (taken in concert with following information). All files are NetCDF: Raw data from station datasets The data are indexed as follows: Seasons: 0 = DJF, 1 = MAM, 2 = JJA, 3 = SON Datasets: 0 = IUK, 1 = HadAT2, 2 = RAOBCORE, 3 = RICH-obs, 4 = RICH-tau, 5 = READER Stations: 0 = Amundsen Scott, 1 = Halley, 2 = Novolazarevskaya, 3 = Mawson, 4 = Davis, 5 = Mirny, 6 = Casey, 7 = McMurdo Levels and years are self-descriptive, but note the 1000 hPa level is actually surface data (only available for READER). The time-series currently run from 1961-2010. I am sending files for Reanalysis data in following email.
