description Note - these data should be used with caution. The chief investigator for the dataset has indicated that a better quality dataset exists, but the AADC have been unable to attain it for archive. Better quality data may be available from the SIPEX II metadata records by Steve Warren. Moderate rime formation was observed during instrument take-down on the 28th of September (ice station 2), and the radiometer may have recorded a few anomalous data points at around that time due to a terrestrial laser scan using an IR laser. The mast was installed and data collection began at ~19:45 local time on October 3, ended at approximately 19:30 local time on October 4. Heavy rime formation on the sensor domes and all windward surfaces of the radiometer, its mast, cables, and datalogger was observed at 13:30 local time (03:30 UTC), so a line of Snow MicroPen measurements was made just to the East of the mast, cutting across the undisturbed snow in that region. These measurements likely coincide with the view area of the lower sensors, though those were badly obscured by rime at the time. At Ice Station 7, the radiometer was recovered on the evening of October 21 with air temperatures above freezing, but icing had almost completely encased the radiometer at 2m above the snow. Note - these data should be used with caution. The chief investigator for the dataset has indicated that a better quality dataset exists, but the AADC have been unable to attain it for archive. Better quality data may be available from the SIPEX II metadata records by Steve Warren. Net radiation (Shortwave, Longwave down and up). Measured using a Kipp and Zonen CNR4 net radiometer, logged by a Campbell Scientific CR1000 datalogger (s/n E-3964-E8876). Always oriented facing north and away from tall obstacles (such as the ship), mounted at approximately 2m above the snow.
