These were: 1, The hard copy maps were scanned and saved as TIF images. 2, The images of the hard copy maps were geo-referenced using Microstation and a similarity transformation. The images were fitted to the Vestfold Hills lake edge data using a visual best-fit approach with varying results. Using the geo-referenced images, the points were digitised. 3, The sample point data were then imported into the Arc/Info coverage format and structured to conform with the Australian Antarctic Division's Spatial Data Model. This spatial data model has since been superseded by the SCAR Feature Catalogue (refer to link below) and the attribute data have been reformatted accordingly. Using the geo-referenced image the points were tagged with their respective attributes. Each sample point feature has a DQI number. Use these DQI numbers (179-180,183-184,195) to search for Quality Information Records about the features (refer to link below). Enter the DQI number as the Qinfo id and start the search. The information includes the original hard copy map name and the estimated accuracy of the data. This data set contains locations of sample sites for Ellis Fjord (1989), Organic Lake (1985) and Deep Lake (1975, 1975) in the Vestfold Hills. Unfortunately little is known as to what samples were collected. It is believed that water samples were taken at all locations, and that bottom sediment samples were taken at least at Deep Lake. When questioned in 2009, the investigating scientist was unable to remember exactly what work was done. The original maps may provide some clues.
