Heard Island - GPS Seabird Survey 2003/04
Progress Code: completed Statement: The data were collected by GPS survey by Eric Woehler (AAD) using a Garmin 12XL receiver (not differentially corrected) during the 2003/2004 field season. The point and polygon data represent nesting sites or colonies of flying birds and penguins. GIS data derived...

The point and polygon data represent nesting sites or colonies of flying birds and penguins. GIS data derived directly from the GPS data have q_info=562. Additional data were eyed based on field observations of inaccessible locations and GPS data recorded in the vicinity of these locations. Data with q_info=563 were eyed in using advice from Eric Woehler with the 1991 SPOT image as a background. Data with q_info=564 were eyed in using advice from Eric Woehler with the Digital globe multispectral image of Heard Island East, acquired 17 January 2003 as a background. The shapefile data are formatted according to the SCAR Feature Catalogue. Usually mapped to a Universal Transverse Mercator projection, Zone 43. A GPS survey of seabirds on Heard Island during the Australian Antarctic Program's 2003/04 expedition. This layer is stored as two datasets (point and polygon) in the Geographical Information System (GIS). Data represent flying bird and penguin colony extents and nesting sites.
