This cruise took place in eastern Bass Strait and Tasmanian waters during 25 November - 19 December 1984, under the leadership of Ron Thresher and Jock Young. Biological data collected on this cruise include demersal fish samples from trawling. Deep sea trevalla (Hyperoglyphe antarctica) was the dominant species by weight and blue grenadier (Macruronus novaezelandiae) had the third highest catch rate. Pelagic samples from trawling included catches of the lantern fish Lampanyctodes hectoris and large numbers of juvenile blue grenadier. Ichthyoplankton samples obtained from around Tasmania. Helicolenus samples for electrophoresis. Zooplankton biomass and species for taxonomy. A 3.8 m thresher shark (Alopius vulpinus) was taken in one deep tow. Samples from longlining include high numbers of Brama brama and one blue shark (Prionace glauca) weighing approximately 70 kg. Photography of the scattering layer at a depth of 300 m. Please note: This metadata record is a preliminary entry derived from information in the cruise plan and/or cruise report. Individual data types - which may span several cruises - will be indexed separately within this metadata system in due course.(derived from the cruise report) - Biological Field Data Sheets recorded during this voyage have been scanned to PDF, and are available (to CSIRO Staff) on-line.
