Unmanned magnetometer network observation data

The unmanned magnetometer network observation project started in 2002 to develop the magnetic observation sites along the route between Syowa Station and Dome Fuji. Four Low Power Magnetometers (LPMs) developed by British Antarctic Survey (BAS) were deployed at two coastal sites (Skallen and Cape Om...

Four Low Power Magnetometers (LPMs) developed by British Antarctic Survey (BAS) were deployed at two coastal sites (Skallen and Cape Omega) and two inland sites (H100 and Dome Fuji) in 2003 by JARE-44. The two LPMs at the coastal sites were moved to two inland sites (Mizuho and MD364) in 2004 by JARE-45. A new type of LPM has been developed by NIPR since 2003. The NIPR-LPM can obtain the observed data in near-real time by using the Iridium satellite phone system. After a field test in 2005 by JARE-46, two sets of NIPR-LPM were deployed at Skallen and H57 in 2006-2007 by JARE-48. Maximum sampling rate of the LPMs is 1 Hz, and digitized resolution is 16 bit. The data of the BAS-LPM are stored in a flash memory card and recovered by the inland party.
