Soil samples were collected in clean glass jars with Teflon septa in the lid and stored at 4 deg C until analysed. Samples were solvent extracted twice with n-hexane using an Accelerated Solvent Extractor [ASE300] (preheat 5 minutes, heat 5 minutes to 70°C, static 5 minutes, flush 70% volume, purge 300 seconds, 1500 Psi, 3 cycles). Extracts were using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) using an Agilent 7890A GC-MS operating in one dimension, coupled to a Pegasus time-of-flight-mass spectrometer (GCxGC-ToFMS).
