Macquarie Island soil chemistry data
Soil cores were collected from numerous locations across the Macquarie Island Isthmus. Soil samples were collected in clean glass jars with Teflon septa in the lid and stored at 4 deg C until analysed. Soil samples were collected in clean glass jars with Teflon septa in the lid and stored at 4 deg C until analysed. Samples were solvent extracted twice with n-hexane using an Accelerated Solvent Extractor [ASE300] (preheat 5 minutes, heat 5 minutes to 70°C, static 5 minutes, flush 70% volume, purge 300 seconds, 1500 Psi, 3 cycles). Extracts were using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) using an Agilent 7890A GC-MS operating in one dimension, coupled to a Pegasus time-of-flight-mass spectrometer (GCxGC-ToFMS).
