The SST algorithm used is the the Ocean Biology Process Group (OBPG) daytime long-wave algorithm (Franz 2006), which is based on MODIS band 31 (11µm) and band 32 (12μm). The monthly SST images were generated by mosaicking the daily SST images, where the overlapping locations have average values of the overlapping cells. The monthly mean SST values were then calculated for each Marine Park between July 2002 and December 2017. The monthly warming rate of each Marine Park was obtained from these monthly mean SST values by using the "Slope" function in the Microsoft Excel which returns the slope of the linear regression line through the least square fit. In the next step, the annual mean SST values were calculated for each Marine Park from the monthly mean SST values between July 2002 and December 2017. Similarly, the annual warming rate of each Marine Park was obtained from these annual mean SST values by using the "Slope" function in the Microsoft Excel which returns the slope of the linear regression line through the least square fit. This dataset measures the overall warming rates of the sea surface temperature (SST) in 58 Australian Marine Parks (except the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Marine Park) over the past 15 years (2003 to 2017). They are derived from the monthly MODIS (aqua) SST images. The fields of "slope_y" and "slope_m" represent the annual and monthly SST warming rates, respectively. The units of the warming rates are Celsius degree/per annual and Celsius degree/per month.
