Summary:More than a century ago, Sami Frashëri, the distinguished erudite, ideologue of National Renaissance and the colossi of Albanian and Ottoman culture, stressed that the created cultures in the Balkans must not be separating walls, but bridges of cooperation and friendship among the people of this region. As a heritage of the Ottoman period culture in Albania are about 430 inscriptions in Arab writing that have been carefully collected, transliterated and translated by the well-known Albanian Orientalist, Vexhi Buhara. These inscriptions are found in the cities of: Berat, Durrës, Kavajë, Peqin, Tiranë, Elbasan, Gjirokastër, Libohovë, Tepelenë, Përmet, Vlorë, Krujë, Lezhë and Shkodër. In general, they are chronograms, epitaphs written in the Islamic religious objects, in mosques, in tekkes, on grave stones, as well as epigrams in the castles, in the clock-towers, in shelters, in urban works, on water-taps, on water-spring and on the inclosing walls. Written on the tiles of lime-stones, on the marble tiles or colons, on plastered parts, on wood or leather material, the inscriptions cover a wide, almost five-century time-period, beginning from the year 1446 and ending in the year 1942. Balkans is a beautiful and wonderful mosaic of cultures, States, languages, ethnics pictured tastefully and masterfully by the universal painter named time. Every element and color of this mosaic is combined in harmony, with its contrast, reports and dimensions. Any efforts to destroy and deform this combination and report of colors, would vanish the beauties of this mosaic, as every efforts of the people to shine their identities would, at the same time, be a shining of all the landscape of the mosaic. Destiny put the Balkan people close and near each other not to quarrel and fight, but to cooperate, to help each-other and to walk side by side through the common historic spaces.
