Summary: | The “The Differentiation of Political Participation” demonstrates a widening repertoire for political action and inaction. At the same time, the growing inequalities in society in general are directly reflected in political participation and its influence on decision-making processes. In essence, this volume invites the reader to consider how political participation could be made more accessible for citizens with different levels of sociopolitical resources. “The Differentiation of Political Participation” is the fourth volume in a regular series from the Finnish National Election Study (FNES). It is mainly based on a survey, collected after the 2015 Finnish parliamentary election. Published by the Ministry of Justice, it can also be downloaded at the website of the Election Study Consortium ( http://www.vaalitutkimus.fi/en/vaalitutkimuskonsortio. html). The website also contains information on the consortium and the election studies conducted after the 2003, 2007 and 2011 elections. This volume is the main report of the academic research project in which the Ministry of Justice funded the data collection and editorial process. The Finnish Election Study Consortium is mainly organized among three universities. Its academic activities are led by a steering committee with four members: chair, Professor Kimmo Grönlund (Åbo Akademi University), director Sami Borg (the Finnish Social Science Data Archive), Adjunct Professor Åsa von Schoultz (Åbo Akademi University) and Academy Research Fellow, university lecturer Hanna Wass (University of Helsinki). The planning of the 2015 questionnaire was led by university lecturer Elina Kestilä-Kekkonen (University of Tampere). The other members of the planning committee were Adjunct Professor Kim Strandberg (Åbo Akademi University), doctoral candidate Aino Tiihonen (University of Tampere), researcher Jussi Westinen (Åbo Akademi University) and Hanna Wass.
