Summary: | The goal of this study was to examine and quantify the energetic content of sea otter diets. Sea otter prey items were collected in three seasons (spring, summer, and winter) to measure caloric value and lipid and protein content. Data from this study were obtained via bomb calorimetry, sulfo-phospho-vanillin colorimetric analysis, and protein content. These data are a collaboration with NOAA ABL, Juneau, AK, and for an NSF-funded project: Apex Predators, Ecosystems, and Community Sustainability (APECS, http://apecs-ak.org/). Other datasets to support this work are also archived with KNB. Sea otter prey species information can be found in the "Sea otter foraging, Prince of Wales, Alaska" data package.
