Summary: | This is the twelfth in a series of annual reports summarizing current field and research activities within the Missouri River Basin under the auspices of the Inter-Agency Archeological Salvage Program. Smithsonian Institution River Basin Surveys research continued apace in 1967 although field operations were somewhat curtailed for fiscal reasons. Three River Basin Surveys field parties operated within the Missouri Basin during the season and one made a brief reconnaissance of the Garrison Diversion Project outside of the limits of the Basin in North Dakota. One party conducted archeological survey and excavation in southwest South Dakota in the Cottonwood Springs area. Another excavated in the Big Bend Reservoir in central South Dakota in the Medicine Creek area. A third party operated in the upper reaches of the Oahe Reservoir in North Dakota, continuing researches begun the previous year.
