The archeological survey was made in August and September, 1950 by Robert L. Shalkop, archeologist, Missouri Basin Project, and a field assistant. The paleontological survey was made in August, 1947 by Dr, Theodore E, White, geologist, Missouri Basin Project, and a field assistant, The high plains portion of Wyoming and of the adjacent states is an archeological "terra incognita" and any site which exhibits cultural deposit of any depth, or evidence of cultural sequence, is a potentially important one, A private collection of artifacts gathered in the vicinity of the Middle Fork Reservoir contains specimens which, on typological grounds, can be attributed to ancient hunting peoples who lived about 10,000 years ago as well as Indian artifacts made of glass, iron and brass provided by the fur traders of the early 19th century. The wealth and importance of this collection would indicate that the Middle Fork area is a key one in Wyoming prehistory.
