Description
Summary:This dataset contains a comparison of data on eterotrophic bacteria, heterotrophic (non-pigmented) microflagellates (2-20 microns in size) and microzooplankton protists during long spring Bering Sea Ecosystem Study (BEST) cruises in 2009 and in 2010. Bacterial abundance and biomass were determined via flow cytometry, heterotrophic microflagellate abundance, biomass, and average cell size via inspection of samples fixed with a 3-step lugol-formaiin-thiosulfate preservative, stained with DAPI and settled onto filters for inspection via epifluorescence microscopy, and microzooplankton by acid lugol preservation and inspection via inverted microscopy. These data were collected aboard the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy (HLY) and the R/V Thompson (TN).
