Filters were dried at 40C for 24 hours, then carbonates were removed by vapor phase acidification with HCl. Samples were analyzed at the Nutrient Analytical Services Laboratory at the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory, University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, Solomons, Maryland, using an Exeter Analytical, Inc., CE-440 Elemental Analyzer.
