These include the Eldorado, Inyo, Klamath, Lassen, Mendocino, Modoc, Plumas, Sequoia, Shasta-Trinity, Sierra, Six Rivers, Stanislaus, and Tahoe National Forests and that part of the Toiyabe National Forest in CA. The National Park units surveyed are Lassen Volcanic, Redwood, Sequoia-Kings Canyon and Yosemite National Parks, Whiskeytown National Recreation Area and Lava Beds National Monument. It is not the purpose of this paper to be a definitive statement of the distribution and abundance of these furbearers. It is instead only a contribution towards comprehensive study of this neglected group of mammals. I have summarized the available data on these species. From the information presented here an appraisal of their current status can be made, and hopefully measures will be taken to fill the gaps in knowledge.
